LICENSED MASSAGE THERAPIST, CERTIFIED MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE THERAPIST

Bethany Smith

Bethany Smith - Massage Therapist
My goal is to meet clients where they are at, make them feel seen and heard, and use the right skills to meet the needs of my clients.

Massage Therapy, as a career, called to me when I was working as a certified nurses assistant. Some of the residents I was responsible for caring for would request foot massages due to pain issues. With the approval of the charge nurse I was allowed to provide gentle massage to residents in my care for my shift. Many times I heard, “This is better than a pain pill.”

This sort of feedback motivated me to take formal massage therapy training. I formerly thought that massage was just something used to pamper, and realized that massage can help support the body's natural healing process and provide comfort to people from all backgrounds, ages and lifestyles.

My foundational massage training is in Swedish massage. After 13 years of practicing as a Licensed Massage Therapist, I have incorporated deep tissue, myofascial release, oncology massage, and manual lymphatic drainage to my massage therapy tool belt. My goal is to meet clients where they are at, make them feel seen and heard, and use the right skills to meet the needs of my clients.

LICENSED ACUPUNCTURIST

Mary Thayer

Mary Thayer, LAc goal is to make her patients leave her office less stressed, more relaxed, and in considerably less discomfort or pain
As an acupuncturist, there is nothing I enjoy more than seeing the visible changes in my patients’ faces after receiving treatment. There is an inner glow, as they leave my office less stressed, more relaxed, and in considerably less discomfort or pain.
— Mary Thayer

The body has an incredible capacity to self-heal, and by tuning in to the natural brilliance of your body, acupuncture can assist with that process.

Growing up in a large and loving family, I was considered the “shy” one. Actually, I was just doing more listening than contributing to the noise! I loved to listen to people’s words, listen to what they were saying and what they were expressing with their body language.

At a young age, Ancient Chinese and Japanese artwork caught my interest, which led to a satisfying career as an interior designer. As a designer, being in someone’s home was a very sacred experience, and it allowed the formation of many deep relationships.

Eventually I realized that my focus was less on their furniture and decorations, and more on their health and well-being. Traditional Chinese Medicine offered an exciting avenue for being of service to my people and providing a proven and holistic method of healing them - mind, body, and spirit.

My goal is to help you tap into your body’s inner wisdom allowing you to live your best life. I see a future where we’re empowered to truly heal on a physical, mental and emotional level.
— Kathryn Coppola

Acupuncture and East Asian medicine is a different way of looking at how the body works from an energetic standpoint that integrates perfectly with the nerd and scientist in me. It is a way for me to be a part of healthcare and have the time to really connect with patients, understand their stories and needs while being able to provide true relief.

My private practice is centrally located downtown Madison with a welcoming and calm environment.

Two days a week I also practice at UW Health’s East Madison Hospital location on the east side of town.  As part of UW’s Integrative Health team, I am trusted and referred to by physicians.

I absolutely love what I do because I believe that together, through acupuncture and East Asian medicine, we can find freedom from physical and emotional pain and make the world a better place, one treatment at a time. There is no better satisfaction for me. If you’re curious how acupuncture can help you, let’s connect.
