Root Chakra
Tori came in for her first Reiki visit with no particular “goal” in mind other than trying it out. During the session, when the Reiki practitioner was holding her foot, Tori had a powerful moment of clarity and a small sob bubbled up out of her. She hadn’t been able to protect her small grandson from the bite of his family dog. That’s why she had been so teary every time she thought about the dog and him having to be put down! She realized that there was nothing she could have done. She did not need to carry this burden.
Tori’s example illustrates the power of the Root Chakra, home to our sense of safety, security, and groundedness. She didn’t know why she was so teary about this darn dog that she wasn’t that attached to, but her body did. She had been feeling scattered, with thoughts of the dog bringing her to tears at random times – both signs of deficiency in her Root Chakra. After the Reiki session, now that her feelings and thoughts were clear, Tori could move past the ordeal. One of the affirmations for the Root Chakra was particularly helpful to her: I release any attachments that do not serve my highest good. She was able to let go of her attachment to the dog, and also to her sense that she should have been able to protect her grandson.
This example also shows that one doesn’t have to come to a Reiki session with any “problem” in mind. The healing power of the Universal Life Force Energy that is Reiki works with the chakra centers in the body to release, energize, and align body, mind, and spirit. Reiki goes where it is needed.
